real Christians do not carry their religion, their religion carries them (Fosdick)

Some Christians carry their religion on their backs. It is a packet of beliefs and practices which they must bear. At times it grows heavy and they would willingly lay it down, but that would mean a break with old traditions, so they shoulder it again. But  real Christians do not carry their religion, their religion carries them. It is not weight, it is wings.  It lifts them up, it sees them over hard places. It makes the universe seem friendly, life purposeful, hope real, sacrifice worthwhile. It sets them free from fear, futility, discouragement, and sin — the great enslaver of men's souls.  You can know a real Christian when you see him, by his buoyancy. Harry Emerson Fosdick

There is not one of us that He has not cared for and caressed. There is not one of us that He has not desired to save and that He has not devised means to save. There is not one of us that He has not given His angels charge concerning. We may be insignificant and contemptible in our own eyes and in the eyes of others but the truth remains that we are the children of God and that He has actually given his angels—invisible beings of power and might—charge concerning us, and they watch over us and have us in their keeping”  ( Gospel Truth: Discourses and Writings of President George Q. Cannon,  sel. Jerreld L. Newquist, 2 vols. [1974], 1:2). "And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.  And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, o...
